Welcome to Billings, Montana! I’m happy to welcome you to Yellowstone County, and even as a small city, Billings packs a punch: Billings is largely regarded as the healthcare and financial capital of Montana and plays a significant role in our infrastructure and Montana’s greater economy with that. And there’s plenty of culture and life with the right-picks, friends, and lifestyle -- I’m a huge believer it doesn’t matter where you live but how you choose to live!
I grew up in Billings—went to high school here, university, and now I live and work in the financial industry. I’ve lived in other countries and am an immigrant myself. When choosing what location to begin my financial career I had quite the decision. I always wanted to work in money management, financial markets, etc. and naturally thought to move to a large metropolitan area to pursue my passions.
What made me choose to stay in Billings for my career was a wise thought from a mentor: it doesn’t matter where you live, it matters where you water your garden that determines the life you have. It was more qualitative, but enough to make me stay. Quantitatively, what I found out after the fact as a young professional and what I champion now for folks is the unique opportunities the Billings market has to offer. Billings as a work environment is a perfect size, I believe for some time—perfect in that:
You’re never a person away from knowing someone you want to know.
Although we’re the largest community in Montana folks still have a small-town nicety and will always be open to a lunch, after hours drinks, or offer a connection or a person that will help whatever you desire. Billings folks care if you care, and there’s a positive karma loop I haven’t seen much in other places.
From a culture standpoint, Billings has been blossoming in new local restaurants with a wider range of foods, a wine culture growing, trailway paths for exploring, and plenty of parks and activities if you go searching. Through the culture and job environment of Billings—there’s plenty of options to live the life and design the life you want!
From a career standpoint, if you’re willing to put in the work—people notice and you often see advancements in your network, career, friendships, etc. much faster than in a bigger city, I believe due to the type of people Billings has and the unique size and impact on greater Montana.
